The Oracle of Delphi

1. The Oracle of Delphi is at the foot of Mount Parnassus. In front of it lies a green plain. How were Delphi chosen as a holy site? In the ancient years shepherds noticed that when their sheep were grazing  at a certain point, they had strange convulsions. They approached the point and saw that there was an opening in the ground, from where fumes were coming out, that caused arousal and hallucinations. The hallucinogenic fumes were caused by some underground stream. People felt that from this point it was possible to communicate with Mother Earth. Thus, this point was considered sacred. How was the communication between Mother Earth and humans? People came and slept here. Through the dreams, Mother Earth gave them answers to their problems. In addition to Mother Earth, in Delphi was also worshiped her husband, Poseidon, the god of the sea and the water element in general. Poseidon revitalizes the Earth with its water. A temple dedicated to Mother Earth was built in Delphi and another dedicated to Poseidon.

2. The ancient Greeks considered Delphi as the center of the world. For what reason? Ancient Greeks loved mathematics. The mathematics, the analogies and the harmony resulting from these concepts were part of their lives. With a look at the map, we find out that Delphi are at the meeting point of two isosceles triangles formed by holy places of ancient Greece. Ancient Greeks may have thought that Delphi was the center of the world because it was the center of their own holy world
